Archive of 2022-2023: Cool winter outfit in style of the 1915-1916 with real vintage coat by "Dixi-Coat/Teiniasu Oy"
This winter I decided to try outfits with maxi skirts and fantasies on the fashion of the 1910s. I have dreamed about this for a long time, because I love long skirts and fitted coats and richly decorated Vamp or femme fatale hats.
Now about the company "Dixi-Coat/Teiniasu Oy", which made my coat. It turned out that this is a fairly well-known company and factory with information in the Finnish Wikipedia.
According to the 1996 "Kansakunnan vaatettajat" ("The Nation's Clothiers") reference book, it was a subsidiary owned by "Turo" from Kuopio City, which was founded in Turku City in 1956.
At the beginning "Dixi-Coat/Teiniasu Oy" specialized in the production of jackets for children and young people. The idea of a factory for the production of youth jackets came from Sweden. The company started in an old carpentry shop with 35 employees.
In the early years of its existence, Teiniasu Oy also operated a now defunct wool factory where other textile companies such as "Femitex", "Kaunotar-Tuote", "Kesto-Puku", and "Mestaripaita" were born in the 1950s and 1960s.
The idea of the jacket brand specializing in youth clothing turned out to be great, and by the end of the 1960s Teiniasu Oy had become one of the largest clothing manufacturers in Finland. The first hit clothes of the teenage outfit were the Tip-Top duffle coat and summer jackets made of colorful awning fabric.
In 1972, the company was sold to the Swiss-registered company "Diximode AG", owned by the Swede Tage Gunnarsson, which began to effectively sell "Dixi-Coats" in Central Europe.
In 1977 the company was renamed to "Dixi Oy". At the same time, the construction of the factory was completed in Kaarina, which became the largest outerwear factory in Scandinavia, employing 424 people and with an annual production of more than 350,000 pieces.
Of these, 75% were exported to Western countries and, as part of bilateral trade, to the Soviet Union.
In 1980, Dixi Oy's success took a turn for the worse, and the company, which employed more than 500 people, began to make losses. The Jämsänkoski factory was sold off cheaply, and a company called "Ragtime" continued to manufacture Dixi-Manin menswear in Myllykoski. The company, which changed its name to Dixi-Coat Oy, continued to operate in Turku and Kaarina but changed hands several times. Dixi-Coat Oy filed for bankruptcy in 1989.
There is no this company any more now. As well, there are no factories in Finland that once produced a great variety of European clothes, among which were high-quality coats made of thick woolen material, and woolen and cotton dresses, and even silk skirts.
Of course, modern coats and the materials from which they are made are incomparable to these vintage items in terms of thickness and quality.
