Archive of 2022: Hot autumn outfit in style of 1936 with real vintage hat by “Jose Martí Martí” from Barcelona
As I'm a vintage enthusiast who doesn't make money from my research, to get extra money for a study is difficult for me.
I also don't monetize my content while I got my 100 subscribers a long time ago. My reasoning is that if someones like my work and if they want me to take it much more seriously, as in the case of paid information about “J. Martí Martí”, then they will help me by “buying coffee” on the corresponding website.
This fashion house (I guess it was a fashion house!), was founded by Don Jose Martí Martí in Barcelona around the time of the First World War. For some time it was listed as "Sucesores: Modas, S. A." There is evidence that this was at least during the time period 1924-1927. But judging by the text below, the successors of “Modas, S. A.”, “J. Martí Martí” began immediately after moving to a new address, that is, since 1914.
So, in “Memoria de los trabajos realizados - Cámara Oficial de Comercio, Industria y Navegación de Barcelona” for 1962 it says the following:
«…La actual empresa «J. Martí Martí , S. A.», a la que dedicó todos los afanes de una vida honesta y de infatigable trabajo, habia sido iniciada por sus padres, don Jose Marti Marti – fundador de la casa a los 19 años – y doña Providencia Dols Cid, quienes sentaron las bases de un negocio, cada vez más amplio, en la calle del Call, para trasladarlo más tarde a la de la Boquería y luego, en 1914, al Paseo de Gracia, № 27…»
“... The current company “J. Martí Martí, S.A., to which he dedicated all the efforts of an honest life and tireless work, was founded by his parents, don Jose Marti Marti, founder of the house at the age of 19, and doña Providencia Dols Cid, who laid the foundation for the ever-growing business on calle del Call, in order to later move it to the street de la Boquería, and then, in 1914, to Paseo de Gracia, No. 27... "
Unfortunately, I am not shown the entire piece of text, so I do not know which son of Don Jose Martí Martí is being referred to.
In general, from this text it can be assumed that a certain company “Modas, S. A.”, whose successors declared themselves “J. Marti Marti, S.A. was located at "Paseo de Gracia, 27" and its successors "J. Marti Marti, S.A. became only after he moved to this place, starting in 1914.
Then, at some later period, this store began to work at two addresses at once on the same street "Paseo de Gracia, 25 y 27".
Judging by the advertisements I found on this site, for some time this company did not specialize specifically in headwear, but also in sold silk fabrics for shawls and echarps, and leather for outerwear, and gloves, and bags, and collars, and English hair nets.
In what year “J. Martí Martí” ceased to exist , I do not know. Its dresses and hats in modern Spain are represented in private collections and museums dedicated to the fashion history of 20th century.
I am wearing:
- (on some photos) Real vintage black cotton/modal/linen blend fitted short jacket by “Köhler Modell” (Loden-mode aus der Hallertau), made in Germany (Bavaria, Hallertau), about 1970s-1980s
- Real vintage green with purple/lilac floral print cotton/rayon blend midi dress with white lace collar, puffy elbow length sleeves and buttoned back by “Lisa Petites”, made in USA, about 1980s
- (not seen) White pure silk slip dress by “Lady Avenue”, made in Denmark, 2000s-2010s
- (not seen) Black pure silk petticoat, about 2010s
- Real vintage black lacquered raffia top hat with white paper roses by “J. Martí Martí, S. A. Barcelona” (Casa Jose Martí Martí, S. A., Paseo de Gracia, 25 y 27, Telefono: 84A y 221 46 90, Barcelona), made in Spain, about 1930s-1940s
- Real vintage black with gold lines lacquered wood round buttons clip-on earrings, about 1940s
- Real vintage black leather belt with metal X-shaped clasp, about 1970s-1980s
- Real vintage black crocodile bag with metal clasp closure, about 1960s-1970s
- Black leather shoes with mid-high heels, made in Spain, 2010s-2020s
At first glance, the dress is quite simple, made of a floral cotton blend. But in combination with black accessories, I get a strict and elegant outfit.
Even the Bavarian jacket does not look like a part of national clothes, but seems to be just a sophisticated detail of everyday wardrobe. And besides, in the fashion of the 1930s-1940s, traditional clothes were very popular, and especially from Bavaria and Austria.
Some ladies are not biased towards the combination of a black top and a light bottom, but in fact, if you choose the right top and bottom, you can get a very good color scheme!
By the way, with this outfit, I am finally demonstrating my super find - a really vintage handbag made from a real crocodile leather! It was my cherished dream for many years, but only at the end of last year it came true! A nice bonus is that the handbag cost me only 5 euros!
