Archive of 2022: Very hot autumn outfit in style of 1965 & New Look's sheath dress silhouette
It's been almost a month since I posted anything. I apologize to my readers. I've had a tough month, both physically and emotionally. A long semi-annual heat, then sudden changes in temperature, and my health was greatly fell down.
Unfortunately, I did not have time to publish all my outfits for the autumn. As well as due to unsettled weather, I was not able to do new photo shoots with winter outfits.
Therefore, I continue to publish outfits for a very hot and hot autumn using my archive of 2022.
This time I'm demonstrating a silk sheath dress.
But let's look at history a bit. What is called a sheath dress?
Sheath dress is a narrow dress that emphasizes the female figure. The classic version has no sleeves, is with knee length, and its neckline, as a rule, has a rounded shape (that is, like in my presented outfit).
Sheath dress is an eternal classic, a symbol of sophistication, elegance and boundless femininity.
The date of birth of the sheath dress is usually considered to be 1926. It was then, when Gabrielle Chanel came up with her legendary LBD (little black dress), which can be considered the prototype of the sheath dress.
The dress created by Mademoiselle Chanel covered knees a little, it was also distinguished by a simple semi-circular neckline and had no frills.
The model we are interested in became independent of the LBD (little black dress) in 1928. At the same time, the term “sheath dress” itself appeared.
The first peak of the popularity of this cloth came in the 1930s due to its versatility and simplicity of cut. It served as a great backdrop for various accessories, so women could easily update their image during the crisis of that time.
The second peak of popularity of the sheath dress happened during the New Look, thanks to Christian Dior and other similar fashion designers. The silhouette, pulled into a sheath dress, had become as popular as the silhouette with puffy skirts. Marilyn Monroe liked to wear sheath dresses. Therefore, I personally associate this piece of cloth with iconic Hollywood beauty.
The third peak of popularity began or rather continued over the 1960s. It was then, in 1961, that fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy created a model of a long black sheath dress. Audrey Hepburn appeared in it in the same year in the film "Breakfast at Tiffany's".
As known, the couturier made three copies of the dress. One remained in the Givenchy Fashion House; the second was given to the Madrid Costume Museum; the third he gave to Audrey.
In 2006, a black dress was auctioned off by Christie's in London for $1 million!
Another story about the sheath dress is connected with the 1950s, when Lilly Pulitzer (now Lilly Pulitzer is a very famous American brand of women's clothing) moved to the fruit groves of Palm Beach in Florida and opened a fruit shop. She asked her tailor to cut and sew a dress that would cover the permanent fruit stains that appear on clothes while working.
The dress should be sleeveless and have a simple design, as well as a length just above the knee. It also had to be brightly colored.
Soon her dress became very popular, as did the fruit juices, and Lilly's customers asked where they could get the same dress. Lilly started selling dresses, and when her high school friend Jacqueline Kennedy appeared in one of her sheath dresses in the pages of “Life” magazine, the sheath dresses began to gain a lot of popularity in America.

My sheath dress paired with a pillbox hat has very Jacqueline Kennedy's style! In general, this dress with its length and cut looks like 1965!
The tight dress with a loose jacket makes it look like New Look and Christian Dior. The combination of burgundy and black colors is great for the beginning of autumn.
