Hot summer outfit in style of late 1950s-early 1960s with real vintage swing dress by “Siro-Puku” & flower circlet hat
This vintage swing dress from the Finnish manufacturer “Siro-Puku” I would date between 1959 and 1961.
I did a search for information about "Siro-Puku". In Finnish it means "Graceful Dress" or "Graceful Suit".
As always, there is very little information about it in the Internet.
I was able to learn that it
was a clothing factory (tehdasvalmisteinenompelu) located in Lahti, an
industrial city.
I also managed to find its full address. Street view on Google maps allowed me to see the building that once housed this production. Unfortunately, it is no more exist.
The building is unique in that its facade on the left side is decorated
with a panel with a child, a woman and a man with a sewing machine. Perhaps a
silent witness that my dress was once made there and that the factory made
clothes for all genders and ages...
All references to "Siro-Puku" are in Finnish reference books (YHTIÖHAKEMISTO 2: Suomen kauppa ja teollisuus kuvina) for 1963, 1965, 1969–1973s.
"Siro-Puku" dresses are also on sale mainly in Finnish online stores as models from the mid and late 1960s. In the Finnish Museum of town Lahti (Lahdenhistoriallinen museo), a woolen skirt from the same period is presented.
However, my dress is unique in that it is from the late 1950s, early 1960s and
is most likely the earliest, if not one of the very first, that
"Siro-Puku" produced.
I paired the dress with a flowered hat that I couldn't find to match with it for a very long time but finally found.
The hat goes great with the dress. Although the
dress is from the late 1950s/early 1960s, the flower hat looks like a
"Rose Circlet" from the "Sears" catalog for Spring/Summer
1964. But it is quite possible that such a hat could have been made earlier.
After all, as it is known, "there is nothing new under the sun".
I am
wearing:
- Real vintage cotton white, lilac, purple and green floral knee-length swing dress with short sleeves, square neckline and matching belt by “Siro-Puku” (Siro-Puku OY Lahti, Vesijärvenkatu 38), made in Finland, about late 1950s- early 1960s
- (not seen) Cream pure silk slip dress by “Hoss Intropia”, 2010s-2020s
- (not seen) Black pure silk petticoat, about 2010s
- (not seen) White cotton petticoat, about 1990s-2010s
- Real vintage pure silk white, lilac and green flower circlet hat with voile, about early 1960s
- Lilac, white and gold toned braided from beads necklace by “Blanc du Nil”, about 2020s
- Real vintage red-violet with leather structure vinyl handbag with two chain handles, about 1980s
- Cream leather mid heel shoes, made in Spain, 2020s
Thus, I got a romantic outfit in the style of the late 1950s and early 1960s. I've always liked the lilac/purple shade and assumed it would suit my dark hair, little bit in style of Elizabeth Taylor.
