Very hot autumn outfit in style of 1949-1951s with plaid print: vintage swing skirt and silk hat

The plaid print is extremely simple, but meanwhile very beautiful and elegant.

For some reason, its appearance is attributed to the Scots, but I think that this is not correct. Because the plaid can be found in the national costumes of various countries.

For example, antique plaid skirts were kept in the trunks of my maternal great-great-grandmother until the 1970s.

And she, along with her husband, my great-great-grandfather, came from the Baltics. Probably from there my passion for both the plaid print and puffy skirts. My great-great-grandmother wore many, many petticoats until her death.

That is why this plaid midi swing skirt by “Liz Claiborne” is so close to me. I bought it on sale in a vintage store, it cost 19 euros, but I bought it for 2!

"Liz Claiborne" is an American brand created in 1976 in New York by Belgian-born American Anne Elisabeth Jane Claiborne, designer and businesswoman. She won first place in the "Jacques Heim National Design Contest" in 1949, which was sponsored by the famous "Harper's Bazaar".

Despite the fact that the brand still exists, its creator died in 2007.

But my skirt is clearly from the beginning of "Liz Claiborne". After all, as known, South Korea produced clothes for America in the 1960s and 1970s, and my skirt is made in Korea.

The skirt is very similar to the typical 1950s.

Its design is remarkable in that it does not have a zipper, but it fastens on the left side with mother-of-pearl buttons.

The brand of my unusual (I always try to buy unusual things!) blouse “Marco Pecci” was founded in 1979 in Germany and has nothing to do with any Italian named Marco Pecci. This brand no longer exists.

My hat is made of dense checkered silk. It even has a lining and frame inside. Therefore, it keeps its shape very well.

This style is typical of the 1950s and from some angles the hat looks like a half hat, as well as some kind of shallow cloche hat and "Flatterer" hat from the pages of fashion magazines of the period.

The beautiful heeled shoes I wear are from my past life, when I lived in a big city where there was a normal even pavement, and it was possible to walk in heels without being afraid to tuck feet.

Now I can only wear these shoes for photography or for short distances on the main street, which is smoother and easier to walk than the others in the town I lives now.

I am wearing:

  • Real vintage blue pure silk blouse with elbow length sleeves, faux double-breasted, button-down front by “Marco Pecci” (brand of “Peek & Cloppenburg KG”, Düsseldorf 40212, Germany), made in Germany, about late 1970s (not earlier then 1979)–1980s
  • Real vintage blue, black and red colored plaid cotton/linen blend midi swing skirt by “Liz Claiborne”, made in Korea, about late 1970s (not earlier then 1976) – 1980s
  • (not seen) Black pure silk petticoat, about 2010s
  • (not seen) White cotton petticoat, about 1990s-2010s
  • Real vintage white, black, yellow and red colored plaid pure silk hat (halfhat/cloche/flatterer), about late 1940s-early 1950s
  • Red epoxy resin and mother of pearl round drop clip-on earrings, about 2000s-2010s
  • Handmade dark red leather belt by “ReVolt”, Italian style by Remo Salvador, made in Italy, about 1990-2000s
  • Real vintage dark blue straw basket handbag with two round handles, about 1950s
  • Red leather shoes with mid-high heels, cream/white cotton lace decor and leather ballerina lace up by "Khrio`" (KHRIÒ brand of ALFIERE S.P.A.), made in Italy, 2010s

I ended up with an outfit in the style of the late 1940s - early 1950s, maybe 1949 or 1951.

The combination of a plaid print on a skirt and a plaid print on a hat, it seems to me, turned out to be very successful, even despite the fact that the plaid is of a different shade.
